LDA Shots

LDA (Low Dose Allergen)

LDA is a safe and effective immunotherapy (allergy shot) used to treat allergies. It contains very low doses of environmental allergens from our region along with an enzyme, beta-glucuronidase. This enzyme attracts specific white blood cells (T-regulator cells) and makes them “pay attention” to the allergens included with the enzyme in the injection. This causes a down-regulation of the immune response to these allergens (if present). In other words, LDA works to turn down the allergenic response to environmental allergens. LDA has been used for over 50 years extensively in the US and Western Europe with proven safety and efficacy. LDA contains all natural ingredients that are in our environment (pollen, dust, mold, and dander) and the body (the enzyme beta-glucuronidase) so no foreign substances are introduced into the body with an LDA shot.

Comparison between LDA and Conventional Allergy Treatments

Conventional allergy medications work by blocking the histamine or leukotriene receptors, helping only when taken (and requiring patients to take the medication indefinitely). Traditional weekly allergy shots and allergy drops work with the immune system to gradually build tolerance to specific allergens. Not only does LDA treat multiple environmental allergies in a single shot, it also works to reset the immune system’s allergic response, rather than just working to build up tolerance. LDA requires much less treatment – one shot once a month versus weekly allergy shots or daily allergy drops.

LDA Benefits Compared to Conventional Allergy Treatments

  • Quick results (most patients see improvements within 1-2 months of treatment)
  • Long-lasting effects for a wide range of environmental allergens
  • Less frequent treatments (once a month instead of weekly or daily)
  • Less expensive than conventional allergy shots because skin testing is not required
  • Environmental Allergies, Asthma, and Chronic/Recurrent Sinusitis
  • Skin Conditions: Dermatitis, Eczema, and Urticaria (hives)
